Christ Jesus, in fulfilling his avowed mission of bearing...

Trinidad (Col.) Picketwire

Christ Jesus, in fulfilling his avowed mission of bearing witness unto the truth, overcame sin, sickness, and death, thereby proving these conditions to be without divine authority, hence untrue in the sight of God. Mrs. Eddy's words on page 495 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," make this sufficiently clear: "If sickness is true or the idea of Truth, you cannot destroy sickness, and it would be absurd to try. Then classify sickness and error as our Master did, when he spoke of the sick, 'whom Satan hath bound,' and find a sovereign antidote for error in the life-giving power of Truth acting on human belief, a power which opens the prison doors to such as are bound, and sets the captive free physically and morally."

It is but just, however, that a vigorous denial be entered against the classification of Christian Science with such antipodal teachings as paganism, theosophy, Hinduism, and mesmerism. The unprejudiced study of Christian Science and the application of its teachings have convinced large numbers of both lay members and clergymen of many churches that it is nothing other than the precept and practice of primitive Christianity. Christian Science is indeed justified by its fruits, which are those promised by Jesus, and are the fruits of the Spirit, against which, as Paul says, "there is no law."
