About eight years ago Christian Science was first brought...
About eight years ago Christian Science was first brought to my attention. At that time I was in the depths, mentally, physically, and financially. Besides the mental strain as the result of great trouble and anxiety, I was told by two of the best physicians in the place where we lived that I had an incurable case of Bright's disease. My father had passed on about six months prior to this with the same ailment, under medical treatment.
At that time I had three children, all having been reared under materia medica. The birth of each of these children was accompanied by terrible suffering and with every discordant condition connected with an experience of this kind. Another little one was expected in my home and I was condemned to die by my physicians and friends; but this healing truth came to me, removing all fear, and the ever presence of God's protecting love was realized. When the so-called critical hour came, I had no fear. There was a nurse and my husband in the house at the time, but as both were very antagonistic to Christian Science I thought it wise not to let them know the situation; so I went to my mother's home next door to telephone the practitioner who had so lovingly helped me along the rugged path. It was past midnight, and all was calm and peaceful—even the stars seemed to tell me that God is All-in-all. My mother wished to accompany me home and stay with me; but knowing that God was there, I was not afraid to go alone, and I thought it wise to have no undue moving around in the house so as not to awaken anyone. I made all arrangements myself, alone with God.
The demonstration was completed in about ten minutes from that time and was without pain. I read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, to keep my thought clear. I remember well the substance of what I read when I knew the work was complete: that God is with us most, when we need Him most. What a deliverance! I called my nurse and husband, and the demonstration was incomprehensible to them. The child is now eight years old and has never had but one drop of medicine, that having been given him by the nurse, who did not know any better. He has a clear sense of the truth and practices it in his little problems. The other three children are Christian Scientists now, and depend entirely on God as their Physician and ever present help. The oldest, a girl of fourteen, is a soloist in our little church.
