The Lectures

Lecture Recommendations

The need for thorough metaphysical work in preparation for and protection of every Christian Science lecture should never be lost sight of. In his second epistle to the Corinthians Paul said, "The letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life." When Jesus led the five thousand across the desert place and provided for their human needs, these human arrangements—that is, the mere letter—would have come to naught but for the fact that he was able to provide them with "the bread of life" through metaphysical demonstration.

Christian Scientists have learned that the letter and the spirit, the practical human details and the spiritual demonstration, must go hand in hand in arranging for a lecture. Every detail, including the bringing together of the audience, should be recognized as under the operation of the divine law referred to by Jesus when he said, "I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him." These statements make plain the imperative necessity in our day for that metaphysical work which recognizes the import and power of the Christ message as most essential in rightly directing the preparatory arrangements and the assembling of the audience for a Christian Science lecture.

A church or society giving a lecture or lectures during the coming lecture year, which begins July 1, should correspond at once, through the clerk, with that member of the Board of Lectureship whose services are desired. Joint lectures may be arranged through special committees representing the churches.
