Extracts from Letters

[Received from Italy]

"I wish to express my gratitude for the activity afforded me by the War Relief fund of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston, U.S.A. I represent the Brescia branch of Florence committee of The Mother Church War Relief fund, and by it have been able to reach many families in need, relieving suffering, breaking down prejudice against both Protestantism and Christian Science, and giving me activity I was in great need of.

"Let me again express my gratitude, and that of my husband, for Christian Science, its great humane activity the world over, and especially for the larger activity of its good work here in Italy where even Protestantism is looked upon by the masses as something to be avoided; for they, the people, do not understand.

"I would like to add that my new activity in The Mother Church work, both working with the fund and also as committee on publication, makes me feel nearer the main vine and has done much for me in enlarging my understanding of God and our relation to Him. My daily prayer is to grow more in grace and in the love of God, and, above all, to keep that understanding untainted by human reasoning."
