I accepted the teachings of Christian Science as the truth about ten years ago, because of the healing of my mother, who at that time was pronounced by two physicians as past all help, unless an operation could be performed, which they said could not be done because of her age. The trouble was diagnosed as gallstones. The doctors both said she could not live through the night; she did, however, but knowing that they had given up all hope of her recovery, she asked if she might have Christian Science treatment. No member of the family knew anything about this teaching, and most of us condemned what we thought it to be, as she herself had done, but a practitioner was sent for and came immediately, remaining for some time. That evening my mother arose from her bed, dressed, and walked downstairs. She sat at the table and partook of the evening meal with the family, eating of the same food as the others, and partaking of a vegetable which she had long feared, with no bad effect.

I was not present at the time, but was on my way from another state, having been sent for. I arrived the day after, and when I was told that it was through Christian Science she had been so wonderfully healed, all my prejudices faded away instantly, and I began from that day to investigate its teachings. I accepted without question what I read in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and was grateful for every smallest ray of light which came to me through the help of others. I began to apply its teachings very soon, and by this application gained in the understanding of the might of Mind, with some realization of the allness of Principle, and was able to prove Christian Science to be the truth.

From the day I was told of my mother's healing, I have never used any material remedy, although we had a medicine case which was kept filled with the many remedies on which we relied. When I returned to my home and told my family of the great change in my thought of Christian Science, they were not all pleased at first; but one daughter decided that as I was so earnest about it, it must be the right thing, so she and I began the study together. Gradually others began to rely on the healing power of Truth as taught in Christian Science, and to realize that we had been blessed, as have thousands of others, by this wonderful discovery of Mrs. Eddy, through whose close communion with God the truth of being was revealed to her.
