The Annual Business Meeting of The Mother Church

When the Communion season in The Mother Church was abolished by Mrs. Eddy in 1908, it was pointed out that the seating capacity of The Mother Church Extension is limited to five thousand. Thus it will be seen that in order to avoid disappointment among the members, the demonstration must be made each year of limiting the attendance at the annual business meeting to the capacity of the edifice.

Mrs. Eddy has said (Miscellany, p. 125) that the annual business meeting of The Mother Church is "a grave guardian" because, as she explained, it requires us "to report progress, to refresh memory, to rejuvenate the branches and to vivify the buds, to bend upward the tendrils and to incline the vine towards the parent trunk."

According to the provisions of the By-laws no others than the officers of The Mother Church are required to be present, but in accordance with the established custom The Mother Church extends a loving welcome to its members, and requests them to aid in demonstrating an attendance at our annual meetings which shall not exceed the present seating capacity.
