I have been a Christian Scientist and a member of the...
I have been a Christian Scientist and a member of the church for nearly ten years, and in that time have proved the power of divine Love in many ways. About twelve years ago my wife had what two eminent physicians diagnosed as an abnormal kidney. They told her she would have to undergo an operation, to which she objected. On making a visit to Greenwich, Connecticut, she met a lady who told her of the beauties of Christian Science and of its healing power, the result being that on her return home she informed me that she was going to have Christian Science treatment. I laughed at her, and scouted the idea, not having any faith in it; but the result in a few weeks was a perfect healing, and it has been permanent.
The year following, my wife had an attack of acute lung trouble which was so severe I insisted on calling a doctor, for I was filled with fear, but she was faithful in her test of Christian Science treatment, and within a week she was healed. That led me to the study of this teaching. I began treatment, and was healed of kidney trouble, the smoking habit, and other evils, and found that God is an ever present source of good. On May 1, 1916, I had a stroke of paralysis, affecting the whole of my right side, and my speech. I had gone to my place of business, and after reaching there, collapsed. I could not talk, but was conscious. Two men took me home in a cab, and my wife telephoned for a practitioner. In twenty-nine days I was back at my work, going up and down stairs quite frequently. The building was being remodeled, and the lower stairs had been taken away, so I had to use a ladder. I have been continually at work ever since. After such a demonstration, can anyone doubt God's love, or that His faithful servants reflect that love?
I feel that I am heavily indebted to God for all His blessings, and am deeply grateful to Mrs. Eddy for pointing the way for me to follow. Not a day passes that I do not praise and bless God for His wonderful goodness, mercy, and love to the children of men. My friends and neighbors think the healing is wonderful considering my age, which according to human concept is over seventy years. I am daily looking to God for all my help, and am happiest when I conform my actions and thoughts to the teachings of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
