In the autumn of 1902 the light of Christian Science first...

In the autumn of 1902 the light of Christian Science first dawned upon my darkened mind and taught me, when near the confines of death, that God is good and good alone, and that there is no evil in His infinite plan. I was attacked with severe pains in the head, stomach, and bowels, and in twenty-four hours was to sense in a critical condition. My husband called in the family physician, who at once sent for the best doctor in the city to consult him about the case. They both agreed I had typhoid fever and congestion of the stomach and bowels. Five days after I was taken ill I was given up by the physicians, and the family was told the end was at hand. I had been clinging to the twenty-third psalm, when conscious, and realized that God did not want any of His children to die. My mother is a Christian Scientist, and when she came in I asked for help in Science; so she immediately called a practitioner, through whose clear understanding of the truth that makes free, relief was soon experienced. In less than two hours I was resting quietly. I arose the following day, dressed myself, and went into the dining room, where I ate a hearty dinner, thanking God with all my heart for His wonderful truth as revealed to our dear Leader.

Since then I have passed through what seemed many deep waters, but Christian Science has always sustained me and carried me through victorious and safe. I thank God for the many wonderful demonstrations I have had through the understanding of Truth. I am filled with gratitude and love for our many blessings in the way of church work and for the privilege of being a member of The Mother Church; also for class instruction. Our literature always points the way to those who come for help in this blessed truth.
