I wish to express my deep feeling of gratitude for all that Christian Science has done and is constantly doing for me. In March, 1908, I became completely incapacitated. My health was gone, and added to this I experienced business reverses and financial losses. I was treated by noted specialists in Chicago, where I was then living, and in various other cities, but with no good results, and for five years I continued to lose ground. Rarely, and for short periods only, was I able to attend to business. Finally I was prevailed upon to enter the clinic of a well-known institution, where I was under the observation and treatment of four specialists. After four weeks my case was pronounced absolutely incurable, as I had locomotor ataxia, pernicious anaemia, and chronic bowel disorder. I was also addicted to the tobacco and liquor habits. On Thanksgiving day, 1913, I was discharged from the hospital, and for sixty days following I worried and wondered when the end of my suffering would come. Then my wife received a letter from a friend who recommended Christian Science, and within another week two other people advised me to try it.

In talking the matter over, I told my wife I would take a chance so as to satisfy my friends. I knew nothing about Christian Science at the time, but was told it could do me no harm even if it did me no good; that I had everything to gain and nothing to lose. A practitioner was sent for and after a long talk I felt assured, and treatments were begun at once. Material remedies were given up, my diet list was abandoned, and from that day I have not taken a drop of medicine, but I have been able to eat anything I want and have gained in weight. The improvement in my condition became perceptible very soon and in a few months I was back at business. With my recovery there came an intense desire to know more of this wonderful truth, and that for which I am most grateful is the spiritual enlightenment that has been gained through the study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

I am grateful to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the divinely inspired words of our textbook, and for all the other authorized literature. My wife has become interested in this teaching, and our daughter, eleven years old, who has had no Sunday school training other than that of Christian Science, is a devoted student. I am very grateful, too, for the lovingkindness shown to us by the many friends we have made among Christian Scientists from time to time.
