Richford (Vt.) Gazette

In recent revival meetings held in Richford the subject of Christian Science was discussed by an evangelist, and misstatements were made regarding it. Now the teachings of Christ Jesus do not warrant attacks of this sort on others holding different beliefs. Although the reverend gentleman may not agree with the beliefs of other religious denominations, this is in no wise "proof positive" that he has the whole truth in his religious belief.

Instead of stirring up strife and enmity toward other followers of the Christ in a world already too heavily laden with these elements, an evangelist, or "good messenger," should be preaching and teaching "On earth peace, good will toward men," and so setting forth our Master's methods as to enable his hearers to come up to the standard of true discipleship as recorded in the gospel: "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

Christian Scientists are, one and all, willing that the test recorded in the book of Acts, as recommended by Gamaliel to opponents of Christianity, be applied to the teachings of Christian Science: "If this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: but if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God."
