Among the Churches

Current Notes

Washington, D. C. —A third Christian Science church, located in the down town part of the city, was the subject of discussion at a meeting of the members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, held last evening [March 5]. It was pointed out that for the past few months First Church has been filled to capacity at both the Sunday morning and the Wednesday evening meetings, all seats being occupied, and people, at times to the number of one hundred and fifty, being forced to stand. Almost four years ago conditions similar to those now existing led to the formation of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, which has since that time been steadily growing in size. It is expected that the new church, when formed, will be located nearer the center of the city than either of the other two churches.—Washington Times.

Greeley, Col.—The framework of the building of First Church of Christ, Scientist, at Eighth Avenue and Fourteenth Street, was started to-day [Feb. 22], the foundation having been completed the first of the week. The building, which will be a frame structure, will cost when finished about seven thousand dollars. This is to be but a temporary structure to meet the needs of the Christian Scientists at the present time, as they expect in the near future to build a permanent home which will be of brick or stone. The lot which they own is 100 by 100 feet and was purchased a year and a half ago.—Greeley Tribune-Republican.

San Francisco, Cal.—Third Church of Christ, Scientist, at 1250 Haight Street, opposite Buena Vista Park, was dedicated yesterday [Jan. 20]. The property cost $125,000, and all bills and outstanding debts have been paid, $11,790 having been received from the Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy. The church was organized December 27, 1908. The corner stone of the new building was laid March 8, 1915, and the church was completed in February, 1917. The auditorium seats one thousand.
