When I began to think about religion and the teachings of...
When I began to think about religion and the teachings of the established churches, I drifted away from church and religion and for many years was what is known as an agnostic. Some eight years ago my wife, having heard considerable about Christian Science, requested me to attend a Wednesday evening meeting with her. I did so, but told her after the meeting that I thought Christian Science one of the biggest delusions I ever heard of. After that evening we gave the subject no further thought.
About two years subsequent to this occurrence I began to be ailing, and suffered from stomach and bowel trouble, auto-intoxication, sleeplessness, and kidney trouble (for which a truss was worn). Several doctors were consulted and I took the medicine they prescribed, but received very little help. I was also examined by a specialist, and when he got through I had more ailments than before. About that time several cases of healing through Christian Science were brought to my notice, and I concluded that if these people had been healed by it there was no reason why I too could not be cured. I applied to a practitioner for help, attended the services at the church, and began to study Science and Health with great interest, with the result that soon all the ailments, except the kidney trouble, began to disappear. The practitioner frequently advised me that there was no necessity for my continuing to wear a truss, but every time it was left off for a day or two I imagined that I could not get along without it; so finally, in order to get away from the temptation to wear the support, I burned it. That was over three years ago, and since then I have been free from kidney trouble also.
For all these benefits I am sincerely thankful, also for having found in Christian Science, through the guidance of Mrs. Eddy, that truth for which I searched in vain during many years.—Christian Meier, Chicago, Ill.
