My heart is full of gratitude; and I am moved by a sense...

My heart is full of gratitude; and I am moved by a sense of deep love to God in giving this testimony of the many blessings and benefits received through Christian Science at a time when I was experiencing untold misery. I feel utterly incapable of giving adequate expression to my innermost gratitude.

When the war broke out my worry and misery began, as I lost my position and was left alone, without means of support and without relatives who might have cared for me. To this misfortune was added another: I fell in such a way that as a result I had to spend several weeks at the hospital, and during the following few months could only move along with difficulty and pain, using a stick. This, added to the worry concerning my livelihood, led to a nervous breakdown. The trembling of my hands was such that I could not carry either cup or spoon to my mouth.

I was in such a state of despair that I began seriously to doubt the existence of God; but the all-loving Father had compassion upon me, and in my greatest need a helper was sent in the person of a Christian Scientist. Up to that time I had never heard of Christian Science and its glorious teachings. This Scientist lovingly took care of me, read to me from the Bible with elucidations from Science and Health, and then recommended me to an older practitioner. Both ladies devoted their attention to me in the most loving way, and I was not only completely restored in four months' time, but Christian Scientists readily furnished me with the means by which I have been able to subsist until this day.
