It is with great joy that I give this testimony

It is with great joy that I give this testimony. For some years I was what is termed a man of the world, with the result that I gradually found myself in bondage to the drink habit and its evil attendants, ill health and misery. Several times I tried through will power to give up using liquor, but went back to it with worse effects, until finally I lost my position. I was on the point of being separated from my loving wife and children, when one day a fellow worker where I had been employed spoke to me of Christian Science and what it had done for him and for others.

At first I felt antagonistic, thinking it to be some new idea and of no use to me, as I had not much use for religions of the present day; but I was advised to consult a Christian Science practitioner, and after the first conversation with her I accepted treatment. Then I borrowed Science and Health and began to study the Lesson-Sermon. I particularly wish to emphasize the fact that with the first treatment the desire for intoxicating liquor left me absolutely, and I was aroused to a sense of happiness and given new life. I felt that I had one Father,—Love, Truth, Life,—and that I was the child of God right now instead of at some future time. I am now a Bible student, and am striving as well as I know how to follow in our Master's footsteps. I am very grateful to God, also to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for this grand truth, as well as for all kindness shown to me by Christian Scientists.
