I wish to add my testimony to the many recorded to the...
I wish to add my testimony to the many recorded to the credit of the divine Principle underlying Christian Science and the healing work connected therewith. In the month of June, 1915, after having gradually failed in health for several years, I was obliged to give up my work as a locomotive engineer, and my condition grew steadily worse during the summer and fall of that year, despite all the doctors could do for me. They diagnosed the case as hardening of the arteries, rheumatism, kidney trouble, and enlarged prostate. Severe pain was experienced continually, and I was unable even to raise my head from the pillow without help. My feet, ankles, and legs swelled to an abnormal size, and things finally got so bad that one of the doctors informed my family that in his opinion I could not live more than ten days at the most.
At the request of my family I then consented to try Christian Science as a last resort. A practitioner was called on for help and medicines were put aside. Almost from the first I could see an improvement, and four days after treatment was started I was amazed to find that the swelling had left my feet, ankles, and legs altogether, and that I was able to get out of bed without any trouble. One of the doctors who had been on the case, when informed by a member of my family that the swelling had gone down, stated that it happened frequently in cases of this kind, but that in a day or two the swelling would return worse than ever. However, it did not return, and I advanced so rapidly under the care of divine Love that two weeks after beginning to take Christian Science treatment I walked down town and back, a distance of over two miles, and experienced no ill effects whatever. Inside of another week I felt better than I had for several years.
One of the beneficial effects experienced during my course of treatment was the complete cure of two ruptures, enabling me to dispense with trusses that I had been obliged to wear for some time. For this healing, and for many others that have taken place in my family, as well as for the spiritual uplift Christian Science brings, I am truly grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who gave to the world this life-bringing truth.
