When Christian Science found me, evil was to me the predominating...
When Christian Science found me, evil was to me the predominating power, the only sure thing, and the name of God was an offense. I was without hope; discouragement greeted me in the morning and my daily work was a battle. I attended the Christian Science church at intervals, also read Science and Health, but with the conviction that some day I would detect a flaw in it. I am thankful to say that my search was in vain.
It was not until after I was healed of a severe case of stomach trouble and nervousness, to which I had been subject from childhood and which had increased greatly in strength and perseverance during the time I was searching for flaws in Christian Science, that I was willing to recognize God as the only power, the giver of all good, and evil as nothingness. My healing was instantaneous. When I called up a Christian Science practitioner I had no hope of ever seeing another day, and the last thought I had before falling unconscious was a good-by to everybody ; neverthless in twenty minutes I awakened to find myself like one new-born. I was free physically and my thoughts were entirely changed. That was two and a half years ago, and there has been no return of the old painful condition.
The practitioner has lovingly responded to my call for help when obstacles of different types have barred the way for me on my up-hill climb, and I have been taught to search for God, good. Each day now gives proof of the ever present love and power of our Father-Mother God and of our limitless supply. Fear of lack and failure has vanished, and I have learned to love my neighbor and see him as he really is, the child of God. I have felt the truth of Mrs. Eddy's words, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings" (Science and Health, Pref., p. vii). I am surely grateful for all the blessings I have received in Christian Science, and hope I may be allowed to help some other struggler out of the pit of darkness into the light of Truth. I am daily gaining a better understanding of God as Life, Truth, and Love, and am trying to live in accordance with the teachings of Christian Science.
