The Narragansett Times

It is with some little interest that I have read an editorial in a recent issue of your paper. As your kindly reference to Christian Science is apt to convey a wrong impression as to what Christian Science really is, I am sure you will permit me to add just a word.

It is indeed true that, as Jesus declared, "a man's foes shall be they of his own household;" that a disturbed mental condition does cause a disturbed body. But that which causes such difficulties cannot of itself cure, for, as the great Master also declared, "if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand." In other words, it is the false human mind which, directly or indirectly, causes all the ills of the human race; while the divine Mind, God, or the Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus," is the only true healer of all human discord. It is this understanding, or knowledge of God, which Jesus commanded, which Christian Scientists are endeavoring to attain.

Christian Science is not mere optimism, nor is it the endeavor mentally to manipulate anything or anybody, but it is the utilization of divine law, a law which is applicable in every detail of the daily life. It is the understanding of God as Mind; and since God is infinite, then Mind is infinite, and therefore there is but one Mind.
