Several years ago I received the first Christian Science literature I had ever seen. It came from a relative living in a western state, and found me in a very much discouraged and melancholy condition, as I had experienced a sorrow and loss from which it seemed impossible for me to recover. Although I had united with a church when quite young and had been active in Sunday school and other church activities, the teaching I had received and the way I interpreted the Bible gave me no comfort. I read in the Sentinel of many people being healed and wondered why I could not be also. On July 22, 1913, I borrowed a copy of Science and Health, bought a Quarterly, and began reading in earnest. Soon afterward I was entirely healed of appendicitis in one day, with two absent treatments.

For over thirty years I studied the words of the Bible, so to speak, without understanding them; and when my work here was interrupted by sorrow and loss and I was left alone, as I thought, to fight the battles of this life for two children and myself, I became confused and could not find the way; but I am very glad to say that through the study of Science and Health, in connection with the Bible, I am being helped to find it. I certainly feel thankful to God, also grateful to Mrs. Eddy for this revelation.
