Dumfries and Galloway (Scotland) Standard and Advertiser
In a review of a book of addresses recently published, it is stated that the author of them pronounced Christian Science "to be 'founded on a scheme of metaphysics which is crudely absurd,' but the faith built upon that unsatisfactory foundation he regards as 'entitled to all respect.'" There is no the slightest doubt but that the respect which Christian Science is now receiving from all classes in the community is due entirely to its intrinsic merits. On the face of it, does it not seem ridiculous to ask any one to respect any system, faith in which is said to be based on a "scheme of metaphysics which is crudely absurd"?
It is because the metaphysical position of Christian Science is absolutely sound that it is doing such unprecedented healing work today. And what is the metaphysics of Christian Science? It is that God is infinite Mind, Soul, Spirit, divine Principle, Life, Truth, Love, infinite good. That is the basis of all Christian Science deduction and Christian Science practice. As a system Christian Science is perfectly logical. It never deviates from its allegiance to the spiritual fact that God is infinite, and that He is therefore omnipresent and omnipotent.
The Founder of Christianity, Jesus the Christ, was the greatest metaphysician the world has ever known, and at the same time the most scientific of men, because he knew most of Truth. Humanity continually seems to forget that Christ Jesus in every healing of sickness or sin, and by every demonstration he gave over the elements, such as his walking on the water and his stilling of the tempest, proved the supremacy of spiritual law over so-called material law. He showed conclusively that the truth which he taught could destroy a belief of sickness as readily as it could a belief of sin in the human consciousness; hence the Christ is, as the Christ ever was, or as the Christ shall ever be, "the savior of the body," as well as the deliverer of mankind from every phase of erroneous thinking.
