"Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity."

"Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity." These words of Jesus to the woman who was "bowed together" for eighteen years, have for me a glorious meaning, now that I understand the power, Truth, and Principle back of them. The healing of our little son of infantile paralysis has been accomplished through Christian Science. A few years ago he suddenly became very ill with this dreaded affliction. The right foot was drawn up even with the knee of the left leg, and he seemed to have lost all control of it. If moved by force, it gave him great pain. He suffered more or less continually, lost his appetite, and slept very little. His mother and I did what we could to help him, but he grew steadily worse, so we sought the assistance of an experienced practitioner. On the following day, however, he seemed worse. Paralysis was something I had always been terribly afraid of, and my thought was far from being clear.

One evening when he seemed much worse, I told the practitioner I was positive my son could be healed in Christian Science, but something was keeping him from getting the needed help, and under the circumstances I felt it was better to take him to the hospital. By this time the practitioner realized where the seat of the trouble was, and told me that it was in my thought, and that I needed help far more than the boy. I would not admit this, but nevertheless asked for treatment. The following night the child was in great pain and cried continually, and I decided to take him to the hospital in the morning. Just as the day was dawning, however, I closed my eyes in a receptive, fervent prayer for more light. Instantly the truth flashed into my consciousness, and it seemed to me that the very gates of heaven were thrown open, and for the first time in my life I saw through tears of joy the perfect spiritual universe, in which there could be no disease. The moment this light came to me our little boy received the help. One instant he was screaming with pain and the next was sound asleep. When he awoke a few hours later he said his leg did not hurt a bit. He was somewhat lame for a few days, then the healing was complete.

My appreciation of Christian Science is beyond description. I can now see that if my thought on the Science of being had been perfectly clear, he could have received the help at the beginning of the trouble. There have been no indications of a return of the disease, and the boy goes to school every day.
