Reared in a Christian home and at an early age having united with the church of my parents, I had endeavored to live a Christian life, but that peace which I felt should accompany such a life was not experienced to the degree that I thought it should be. I knew God was not the author of the discords that came into my life, but the puzzling thought was why they should come to me when I was trying to do right, while others were passed by untouched. I longed for guidance, yet when these mental cross-roads were reached I saw no sign-posts and the burden of decision was left to me.
One by one the things most dear to me had been given up, until I questioned "What next?" There was fear in my thought that I might reach the limit of endurance and succumb to insanity. A trip to the West was planned six years ago, in order that I might see new things and therefore have something different to think about. Near the close of this trip I stopped in Los Angeles and was entertained for a few days in the home of a Christian Science friend. Here I became conscious of the presence of that long looked for peace, and decided if Christian Scientists had this "pearl" I would see how they got it. With this began my search for Truth. In less than a year all fear of insanity had left me; in fact I had learned that I could not lose my mind, for Mind is God and man is the expression of this one Mind. During this period, glasses which had been worn constantly for twelve years were laid aside through the study of our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. The understanding of God and of man's relation to Him has brought that peace "which passeth all understanding" and is a living presence.
To all who have thrown the light of Truth upon my path I am indeed grateful, and especially to our Leader, who with undaunted courage has blazed the way from a night of materiality into the dawn of Spirit. I am also grateful for the provision she has made for giving to mankind through our church services, our lectures, teachers, and periodicals the truth unadulterated.—Georgia A. Vancil, Belton, Texas.
