A clergyman as reported in the Graphic, speaking of Christian Science, says that "it contains much that is extraordinarily valuable. Its central teaching of omnipresent love is specially helpful.... Further, its philosophy of the nonexistence of matter and pain, and its consequent denial of sin and death, are neither Christian, nor scientific, nor common sense. Yet I know it has helped and healed those who could really believe it." Our critic seems to have forgotten that the Founder of Christianity taught that a good tree could not bring forth evil fruit, and vice versa.

Christian Science is Christianity in its fullest sense, for it teaches and proves, as did our Master, the infinitude of God, Spirit, and hence the unreality of everything that is not included in this infinitude. Christian Science is Christian, for it is founded on the teaching and practice of Jesus the Christ, in conformity with his command to preach the gospel and heal the sick. It is scientific, because it evinces scientific or systematic knowledge.

St. Paul tells us that the "natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." The study of Christian Science enables one to gain this spiritual discernment and prove it by demonstration.
