It has been made plain to me that divine Love ever waits to bless. One day, when I was opening a drawer that stuck tight, my thumb was injured. In an hour's time I could not use it to do anything and thought it would be necessary to call a Christian Science practitioner and possibly a surgeon, as it seemed as though the bone might be out of place. Then I recalled a testimony given at the Wednesday evening meeting about fractured ribs being healed by Christian Science treatment alone. Knowing that I could do whatever it was my duty to do without harm to myself, I went about my work; but as it seemed impossible to use the hand, I began to read Science and Health with the intention of continuing till help was received—all night if necessary.
Not more than a page had been read when I came to this sentence: "If you sprain the muscles or wound the flesh, your remedy is at hand" (Science and Health, p. 385). I closed the book and went to my room, applying the remedy as well as I could. I knew at once that something had been done and told the rest of the family so, asking what it meant that such unthought of things could take place. My husband said it meant that God's word is "quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword." The first thing in the morning I read from Science and Health, then went about my duties as a housekeeper, to my great surprise doing everything but put up the windows. By noon of the next day I was perfectly free.
I have been interested in Christian Science for seven years. From time to time I have had the help of experienced practitioners, have read a good deal from the Sentinel and the Journal, and have attended the Sunday services. These are some of the helps that have brought me face to face with God's healing Word. As spiritual power is revealed to me through the study of Christian Science, my respect and love for Mrs. Eddy deepens. My greatest desire is that others may know the wonderful healing power of Christian Science.
