I herewith offer this testimony for the encouragement of other seekers after truth. About four years ago the way to Christian Science was pointed out to me through a copy of the Herold which was given to my dear wife by an acquaintance. After attending the Wednesday evening meetings and Sunday services regularly, and reading the aforementioned periodical and later the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," in German, the desire was awakened to get a better understanding of this teaching. Such an understanding came to me very soon, and as a result I stopped smoking and became a different man, being no longer quarrelsome, argumentative, and cantankerous. The understanding of the Principle of Christian Science dawned upon me. I saw what it means to love God and one's fellow beings, and began to act accordingly.

Before I knew of Christian Science I was depressed mentally, had lost interest in everything, and my work seemed to have become distasteful to me. While in this condition I applied to a Christian Science practitioner and asked for treatment. This lady explained to me that there was no reason for discouragement and that I should rely solely on God. She took up treatment for me in Christian Science and led me to where I again found enjoyment in the performance of my duties. Whereas heretofore I had believed that I was the one who should bring about a turn in order that I might attain to a better position, it became clear to me that I had been thinking and acting in the wrong way. I gradually saw that God was my source of supply and that there was a right place for me. From then on my work became enjoyable. I would go to the office bearing good thoughts in mind,—thoughts of Truth,—and I soon found that everything went better than formerly. For years I had been afflicted with an eruption on the face, a condition which yielded only after a change with regard to my thoughts and actions; then I was freed from it. Now I know that God is my sole helper, no matter what the trouble.

A short time ago an abscess formed on my right arm. It seemed to affect the whole forearm as well as the hand, both of which appeared to be swollen, but this trouble disappeared with a few treatments in Christian Science. Despite the swollen condition I was able to be on duty and to attend to my work, which included much writing, as the understanding prevailed that God gave me strength for these duties.
