[Translated from the German]
We read in Psalms, "Call upon me in the day of trouble:...
We read in Psalms, "Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee." I have heeded these words, and may say with others, "The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad." For three years I walked in darkness. All material means had proved unavailing, and then through Christian Science light shone upon my path. I feel that I must tell others of the blessings which I have experienced thereby. I am thankful to God for having led me to Christian Science, whereby I have found healing within a short time, and grateful to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for having again brought to light the truth which for centuries was lost, as well as to my helper, who knew how to make it clear to me that the disease was but an error of thought, which would vanish before the higher recognition as darkness does before the light.
For three years I was afflicted with catarrh of the bowels. I had long lost all faith in allopathy, and when there was no improvement after having been under the care of a homeopathic physician for two years and a half, I tried what is called "nature-cure" as a last resort. The head physician of the sanitarium declared he would be able to cure me within a short time, and after a while there was some improvement, but it was followed by a relapse. The physician expected to cope with this by prolonging and intensifying the treatment, but there was no change for the better, and even the medicines to which he finally resorted were ineffective.
When, therefore, I was left in no better condition than before, a friend called my attention to Christian Science, of which I had never heard up to that time, and I applied at once to a Christian Science practitioner. He directed my thought to the Christ-healing, which he described as "the same yesterday, and today, and forever." I bought a few copies of the Herold, and after reading them over several times, what the practitioner had said concerning this disease became clear to me. Treatment was taken up, and it was not long before I was rid of the ailment. Minor relapses occurred, but I was able to overcome these myself, with encouragement from the practitioner.
