The Lectures

Clarence W. Chadwick delivered a lecture on Christian Science at the Opera House. He was introduced by Judge Jeff Hassell, who said in part:—

I am ignorant, perhaps inexcusably so, of the detailed plan of this church, but I know that its general purpose is in harmony with the spirit and the purpose of the orthodox churches, and that with them it seeks to lead men into the paths laid out by Christ himself; that it has for its adherents millions of men and women as devoted to the cause of humanity and to the cause of Christ as any that live. Its teachings have been misrepresented, sometimes in ignorance and sometimes by design. This is not the first time that such misrepresentations have occurred. You will remember that the teachings and the preachings of the Man of Galilee were decried and derided as sorcery, and the Saviour was denounced as a sorcerer.

Under the auspices of the local Church of Christ, Scientist, and by the authority of the church known as The Mother Church, this lecturer comes to correct misapprehensions concerning its teachings and to declare the truth about Christian Science.—Sherman Democrat.
