It is nearly five years since I heard of Christian Science
It is nearly five years since I heard of Christian Science. Like some other people, at first I scoffed at what seemed to me a form of hypnotism, for I had heard of this Science only as mind-healing; and even after I thought I had grasped it I was still attributing the healing to the supposed power of mortal mind. It was only through a great demonstration that I was suddenly awakened.
The first he ling of importance of which I had any knowledge occurred shortly after I was married. My wife had been complaining of severe pain in her hip. She thought it was a form of rheumatism, but as I was somewhat fearful, I sent her to a good doctor. After a thorough examination, he said she had tuberculosis of the bone. This was of course a sad blow to us, but we decided not to submit to an operation, though the doctor advised one. Then, as though the sun had peeped through the clouds, God sent us a very pleasant lady, who asked if we had ever heard of Christian Science. We told her we had, but were not satisfied with what we knew about it; her question, however, caused us to think, and we decided to try it. We called in a Christian Science practitioner, and remarkable as it then seemed to us, my wife was entirely healed in three treatments.
Since that time we have had many other beautiful demonstrations of healing, but the very greatest in my estimation happened when we were blessed with a baby boy. My wife's family knew nothing of Christian Science, and to please them we decided to have a doctor present when the so-called crisis came. My mother, who lived in the same house as we did, had never attended any one in a case of this kind, but was led to do what was right, and before the doctor came it was all over with little or no pain.
