I am truly grateful for what Christian Science has done...

I am truly grateful for what Christian Science has done for me. All the good that I reflect, all the good that I possess, I owe to the understanding of the Christ, Truth, as given to us in our text—book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.

About thirteen years ago Christian Science found me not only a physical wreck (having been an invalid or semiinvalid for the greater part of seventeen years) but suffering from melancholia. Our only child had passed on, home and business had been swept away, and it seemed as if I had nothing to live for. The mental suffering was far greater than the physical, and I turned to Christian Science for comfort, never expecting to be healed of two so—called incurable diseases. I soon found that Christian Science means reformation,—a turning from the material sense of things to the spiritual, learning to think right about God and His spiritual creation, including man. At once I became an earnest student, applying its rules, and with the help of practitioners I was lifted out of the depressed mental condition and healed of one so—called incurable disease in about three months, and of an abnormal growth in a year and a half. Gradually I was freed not only from the mental and physical diseases, but also from unpleasant home surroundings and financial difficulties, and I became a more helpful woman and a willing worker in the Master's vineyard.

I should like to tell of the goodness of God in an hour of great need. I had been a Christian Scientist about six years when I met with a severe accident, being thrown violently from a carriage. The medical verdict was that one leg was badly broken and the ankle so injured that, according to the dictum of several surgeons, I would be a cripple the rest of my life, and the period of convalescence would cover many months on account of a severe hemorrhage. Besides these conditions, the collar—bone was broken, the spine was injured, and there were other injuries less severe. I was taken to the hospital and was on the operating—table a little over two hours, but I took no anesthetic, as there was no pain. It was six days before all the bones were put in place. I was taken to my home the day after the accident and attended by two surgeons. I asked a Christian Science practitioner for treatment, which was lovingly given, and instead of lying in bed three months, as was predicted, I was out the third week. The sixth week I was walking with the aid of two canes, and at the beginning of the eighth week (while the practitioner was with me) the realization of man's birthright, freedom from all disease, came to the human consciousness, and I walked free with the exception of a slight lesion, which soon passed away.
