September, 1886, found me weary of life, for I could not find among the many material remedies any cure for two so-called incurable diseases,—milk leg and an abnormal growth. I had worn a bandage on my leg for three years and could not go without it an hour without suffering great pain and swelling of the limb. There was also a large growth in my side, and our family physician was called in to examine me. He said to my husband, "She has one chance out of ten to live, and that is by the knife," and advised me to go to a hospital to have the growth removed.
About this time a brother and a sister of my husband were healed through Christian Science after all medical aid had failed, and as a practitioner was then in our little town, I wished to try this healing method, for I had much faith in God and was willing to turn to Him if I only knew how. How to pray aright was what I greatly desired to know, for I had come to believe that if our prayers were not answered it was because we prayed amiss. With the consent of my husband I went to the practitioner for treatment, and he talked very differently from the way our minister did. He encouraged me by saying that God could and would heal me if I came with the desire to know and to do His will.
I cannot tell of the surprise and joy and peace and love that filled my whole being and made me "every whit whole." I removed the bandage from my limb, and I never suffered any more pain. The abnormal growth also disappeared. I received treatment just one week. Neither the milk leg nor the abnormal growth has ever made its appearance since I was healed so many years ago.
