Gratitude for freedom in Truth and a desire to encourage...

Gratitude for freedom in Truth and a desire to encourage others to seek the light impel me to add my word to the many testimones given regarding the healing power of Truth as understood in Christian Science.

In 1895 I consulted an optician in the quest for relief from a distressing condition of the eyes, which seemed to be growing worse. I had taken material treatment without benefit. After a careful examination the optician said that it was a serious case of structural defect of the eye, that I had always needed glasses and would always have to wear them. I accepted the verdict, and for thirteen years wore glasses constantly, experiencing such a sense of relief that they never seemed a burden.

It was in 1905 that I became interested in Christian Science, and in reading the testimonies of healing which referred to the discarding of glasses, I could not imagine myself as likely to have that sort of experience, so thoroughly convinced was I that glasses were a necessity. Surely, a revelation to my consciousness was necessary, and it came. After more than two years of earnest study of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," one night I lay awake declaring the truth for a friend, when I realized that the choice between Spirit and matter must be made, also that Spirit was equal to all demands made upon it, and that I should be enabled to do my work without material aid. I did not put on my glasses in the morning, and have never worn them since. During this time I have done much stenographic and other work requiring close application, besides spending most of the evenings reading and writing. At times mental work has been necessary to maintain the realization of the truth that man's senses are spiritual, and I am glad to say that I have been able to demonstrate this fact as to the sense of sight.
