I hope that this testimony may express, as nearly as possible...
I hope that this testimony may express, as nearly as possible, my sincere gratitude for the help and guidance I have received, and am receiving, both physically and spiritually, from the study of Christian Science. It has been proved to me that God is the only source of lasting help, and that we need no other guidance. It has made the study of the Bible and the practise of religion an actual pleasure to me, as well as an inspiration every day, in everything I do. Before I studied Christian Science, God seemed a stranger to me, far off ; but now I know He is my best friend, my Father-Mother, for my prayers are answered whenever I am guided by the teaching of Christian Science, which is the way that Jesus taught, and Mrs. Eddy tells us to follow her only in so far as she follows Christ.
Some years ago I was healed of appendicitis. At that time I knew almost nothing about Christian Science, but took is up as a last resource before submitting to an operation. A friend, not a Scientist, had given me a Journal and some Sentinels to read, and being favorably impressed with the testimonies there given, I wrote to a practitioner whose name I found in the Journal, and I am very thankful to say I was healed in one week's absent treatment. I had one slight attack shortly after, but I telephoned to the same practitioner, and it was overcome immediately. I had also been troubled with stomach disorders, which disappeared at the same time. Since then, and for about seven years, I have not taken any medicine, but have been enabled to dispel all discordant conditions by following the teachings given us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Even at first, when my understanding was small, I had become so convinced of God's goodness and care by my healing, and other healings of which I had heard, that I did not hesitate to apply the same remedy whenever I was in need of help, and I never sought in vain. God is no respecter of persons, so I rejoice to know that all may avail themselves of the same precious privilege that I have had, with the same results.
Christ Jesus said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." It is generally conceded that the best way to help others is to show them how to help themselves, and this is truly what Mrs. Eddy has done through her works, and what loyal Christian Scientists and practitioners are doing right along. My heart overflows with gratitude to God for this great truth which has so wonderfully opened the Scriptures to me and revealed the strength and beauty of holiness.
