LESSON FROM THE MOUNTAINS

Often have I watched the dull gray mists among the mountains, some heavy and thick, covering the entire range and wholly obscuring it from view, others stretching here and there, the peaks looming through where they are broken, and yet others as merely a light vapor, the strong background being easily seen behind them; but however far the mists may spread, however thick they may appear to be, still we know that behind them the mountains stand unchanged; we do not need to see them to know they are there. On viewing these mists, we never assume that they are greater or stronger than the mountains because they hide them from our view, and we know that as soon as the sun shines they will clear away and disclose the hills in all their strength and grandeur.

What a beautiful lesson this brings us! How often between us and our mountain, divine Principle, there come the mists of error, trying to obscure and hide from us the fastness of its power! Are we always ready to affirm that just as surely as the sun will clear the mist from the mountain, so will the realization of the truth clear the mists of error from our consciousness and reveal omnipotent, divine Love? If we are ready with Truth's affirmations and apply them, as taught by Mrs. Eddy in Christian Science, the mists of error will be driven away and the outstanding mountains of everlasting Life, Truth, and Love will be realized, the mountains which have been standing through all the centuries, steadfast and immovable, although often so seemingly obscured by the mists of sin, sickness, and death. Mortal mind could never pierce these mists, but through the spiritual discernment of our Leader they are being swept away and the mountain tops are revealed to us, strong, steadfast, and sure in Christian Science.
