I give this testimony with a sense of deep gratitude

I give this testimony with a sense of deep gratitude. In the spring of 1911 I was suddenly taken ill with an intestinel trouble and cramps in the stomach. I was unable to partake of any food and lost flesh perceptibly. The physicians whom I consulted diagnosed the case as a serious affection of the stomach, which extended to the intestines and caused. unbearable pain. The one whom I consulted last expressed the intention of operating at once, as in his opinion I could not possibly survive in this condition. However, as he did not vouch for my living through the operation, when inquired of by my relatives, I decided that I would not submit to it.

But "man's extremity is God's opportunity." At that time (July, 1911) I heard of Christian Science and applied to a practitioner in Berlin for treatment. Absent treatment was given for ten or eleven weeks, apart from which I only had the instruction afforded me through the reading of Der Herold der Christian Science and the letters from the practitioner. The pain gradually ceased, appetite and digestion became normal, and I increased in weight considerably. In spite of the physicians' assertion to the contrary, I was well in three months' time without having resorted to the operation, and little by little I regained the strength which I had lost. Today I am stronger and in better health than formerly, and I thank God from the depths of my heart for all these blessings, and am grateful to Mrs. Eddy for having explained to us anew the teaching of Jesus.
