THE LECTURES

A large gathering at the Lydia Margaret theater heard Francis J. Fluno, M.D., expound the truths upon which Christian Science is based. Dr. Fluno was introduced by Orville Bullington of this city, who said in part,—

I have not been fortunate enough to become associated with the Scientists or any other church as a communicant, and I am less familiar with the doctrines of the Christian Scientists than of any other of our many religious organizations; but I do not hold to the opinion that a knowledge of any religious institution is essential in order to appreciate the effects of its work in the world. It has been written that "the tree is known by his fruits," and it is from this fundamental truth as a premise that I have reached the conclusion that the Church of Christ, Scientist, is entirely worthy of the important position which it occupies before the world today, and that the wonderful growth and expansion of this church during the last few years could not have come about but for the fact that its doctrines were based upon fundamental truth.

In no other denomination have I been able to observe greater fidelity to the great truths that go toward making right living possible, than in this church. The very foundation-stone of any church, as I understand it, should be a thorough knowledge by its members of the teachings of Christ, and the superstructure erected upon such foundation, an intelligent and rational application of such knowledge. If this be a correct standard, then certainly the membership of this church can pass muster with that of any other church; for I believe the result of good citizenship and right living attained by the membership of this church could not have been attained except by studious observance of this rule.
