Christian Science "points to the revelation of Immanuel,...

Christian Science "points to the revelation of Immanuel, 'God with us,'—the sovereign ever-presence, delivering the children of men from every ill 'that flesh is heir to'" (Science and Health, p. 107); and as we apply its teachings to our human perplexities and problems, we realize that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the same God that led the children of Israel safely through the Red sea, that delivered the Hebrew children from the fiery furnace and protected Daniel from the fury of the lions, is just as able here and now to redeem His children from sin, sickness, and death. Think you that it was merely a passing fancy that enabled Moses, Elijah, and Elisha to perform their mighty works? Moreover, if Christian Science was simply a fad or a fancy, could it have withstood the attacks from pulpit and press with which it has been assailed for over forty years? Those who have turned to Christian Science for help after all other means have failed, and have been healed mentally, morally, and physically, realize that "the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear," and they are convinced that the teaching which has brought this realization is both logical and consistent.

Christian Science does not "refuse to recognize dual concepts," as asserted by our critic; on the contrary, it is upon just this basis that Christian Science heals, by replacing the wrong concept with the correct one. If one has gone through life believing that two and two make five, and has resisted every effort to change that belief, and all his undertakings have come to naught as a result thereof, when he finally admits that possibly the fault is within himself, abandons his former method of calculation and applies the correct theory, he at once realizes that he has all along been entertaining the false concept, and he is now in position to work out his problems intelligently, with the aid of a rule which is unfailing because of its exactness.

The Christian Science practitioner recognizes that there is misery and woe in the world which can be relieved. Having tasted of the benign and healing influences of Christian Science, it becomes his very natural desire to help others; but only as he acknowledges God as the healer can he succeed. Any one attempting this work from any other standpoint, with mercenary or ulterior motives, signally fails, and is not a Christian Science practitioner.
