I first heard of Christian Science in 1903, and as I was...
I first heard of Christian Science in 1903, and as I was a constant sufferer I was persuaded by friends to go to a practitioner. In the first treatment I was relieved of a bowel disorder, and during two weeks' treatment I laid aside glasses which had been worn for over three years, after I had been told by specialists that I would always have to use them. This trouble was supposedly hereditary, as my father was almost blind for twenty years and my mother had weak eyes; so I did not ask the practitioner for help for this condition, and did not then understand how I could be healed. Besides this healing, I grew much stronger, could eat anything that was set before me, and did not suffer afterward.
My healing of other troubles was slow, for which I am now grateful. An ear difficulty of long standing yielded five years ago, and through the prayerful study of the Bible and Science and Health, with the Lesson-Sermons, I am daily gaining, both physically and spiritually. I am very thankful for all my healings, but more than all else for the change of thought and the spiritual uplift. Through this truth I am a less selfish and more lovable woman. In April, 1911, I came to western Kansas from Chicago, where I greatly enjoyed church privileges. Here I have no Christian Science friends and no church privileges, as I live on a farm and care for motherless children, doing work to which I have never been accustomed, as I had been a dressmaker. At times the way has seemed dark, but Christian Science has been all in all to me. I am grateful for the Monitor and for all the Christian Science literature. The periodicals have brought sunlight and joy into this faraway place.
Great peace has come to me in being able to read and tell of this beautiful truth to others. All I am and all I have I owe to Christian Science. I am thankful to God, and also grateful to Mrs. Eddy for this truth, which has not only healed and freed me, but has brought health and joy to many a sick and sorrowful one. My daily prayer is that I may draw nearer to God, and reflect more love to my fellow men.
