It is indeed a blessed privilege for Christian Scientists to give expression to their gratitude in our Sentinel and Journal, and I have been helped many times by reading the testimonies coming from grateful hearts. I too have had many proofs of God's love and care for me since this truth came into my life.
A wonderful proof of the protection of Love in these latter days was given me in my experience with a degenerate who entered my home and held a loaded revolver to my face for ten minutes. My one thought was that of protection for him, and I broke the silence to tell him that as God's child he could not hurt me. Love was indeed close to me that evening, and saved us both. A remarkable healing was manifested in one of my family who had burned her hand, according to mortal thought, most seriously. Ten minutes after the practitioner was notified the agonizing pain stopped, and no scar remains.
One evening, before the day that I was to sing on an important occasion, I found myself suddenly hoarse, and the sharp pains in my throat became unbearable. I went to bed and tried to treat myself, but even the attempt to swallow caused great suffering. After I had repeated the "Mother's Evening Prayer" by our Leader (Poems, p. 4), I grew calm, and could realize the healing power of Truth, and knew that my voice had nothing to do with material manifestations, but was governed by spiritual law. I sang easily and well the next day. I have had many other proofs of the ever efficacy of Christian Science to heal and to save, but for these I have no words; our dear Father-Mother God knows, however, my intense gratitude for the "Love that guards the nestling's faltering flight," for that light which has revealed the most subtle machinations of mortal mind that have sought to ensnare me.
