I want to express my gratitude for the many benefits...
I want to express my gratitude for the many benefits received through Christian Science. I had never been strong, and as far back as I can remember was considered a very frail child; consequently I was tenderly nurtured, but with the thought hanging over me that in all probability I would never reach maturity. In after years I passed through many trying experiences, each occasion leaving me in a more weakened and nervous condition. Finally, when the greatest sorrow came into my life, I suffered a complete nervous collapse, with many complications. I passed through weeks of sleepless nights, and when I did sleep it was only to have dreadful dreams. I was left with one daughter, and instead of being a brave mother and making an effort to brighten her life, her mission was to tend an invalid mother, as for five long years I was in this condition. The doctors in Mississippi, my native state, did all they could for me, but I got no relief; so with my little girl I went to Louisville, Ky., where I spent six months, part of the time at a sanitarium, and a short time at an infirmary. I was treated by some of the best nerve specialists in the city, who tried hard to help me. I took massage, baths, etc., but finally returned to Mississippi in a worse condition than when I left.
Shortly after leaving Kentucky, I came to Memphis, and there I heard of Christian Science. I had grasped at everything of which I heard, and my means were almost exhausted, but I was persuaded to try Christian Science. At first I was very much opposed to it; in fact, I thought God had sent my affliction upon me, and I had been so rebellious that I almost doubted whether there was a God. It was in this condition that Christian Science found me, and I can never forget the calm, peaceful feeling I had when I first met a practitioner. After a few treatments, on leaving her home one morning, I thought I had never seen the sky so blue and the sun so bright; in fact, everything looked different to me, and all nature seemed so beautiful that I felt like praising God, for I realized that I was healed.
Surely no one has more to be thankful for than I, and I do feel grateful to God, and also to Mrs. Eddy for bringing this beautiful healing truth to mankind.
