In an item in a recent issue the statement is made that the "Brahmins held to the doctrine that there is but one being in the universe, and that is the universe itself." The question is then asked if this is the doctrine of Christian Science. This theory finds no agreement with the teaching of Christian Science. On the contrary, Christian Science clearly indicates that there cannot be a noumenon without phenomena. Most people admit that there is one primal cause, and that this cause is mental or spiritual. Christian Science starts with the basic proposition that "all is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation" (Science and Health, p. 468). Mind being infinite, perfect, its manifestation or expression must partake of its nature, and is therefore perfect. Thus Christian Science teaches that the universe, including man, is the emanation of the divine Mind and is governed by this Mind.

This understanding of man as spiritual and the universe as perfect, has liberated many from evils which have their origin in the belief that man is mortal and the universe material, and that both are governed by material laws which are changeable and destructive in their nature. This belief, which leaves God out of His own universe, constitutes a fundamental cause for disease and sin, while the knowledge that God's law is supreme here and now, and that man may be and in reality is governed by it, relieves fear, and inspires thought with hope and courage.

Today in increasing numbers people are giving thanks to Mrs. Eddy for her exposition of this Science, which is bringing comfort and healing to men and women in all walks of life, and raising them from bondage to material beliefs into faith in the one Mind, God, the source of all good.
