We came into Christian Science as the result of the healing...
We came into Christian Science as the result of the healing of my brother of serious nervousness. Previous to this trial I had been considered very delicate and caused my mother constant worry, as I was nearly always under the care of doctors and nurses. Soon after we became interested in the study of Science I met with an accident. As I was coming down the steps of the school which I attended, I did not notice that they were icy, and I slipped and fell, landing on my shoulder. At first, to mortal sense, I suffered great pain and began to cry; but at the Christian Science Sunday school I had been taught that error cannot harm God's child; that Love protects us. So I declared this truth over and over to myself, and in a few minutes all pain left me.
When I reached home I told my mother about my experience, and that evening she asked my grandfather to treat me, which he did. This was on Friday, and he continued to treat me. On the following Monday, however, my father had a surgeon examine my shoulder, and he said that the collar-bone was broken, but he expressed much surprise that I suffered no pain and that there were no symptoms of inflammation. He also said that the bone should have been set immediately, and that as a result of not doing so I would always have a lump there, though he now advised me to remain very quiet for a certain length of time. Again my father asked my grandfather to continue the treatments in Christian Science, and the next day found me out of doors, playing with the other children. In a few more days I was able to dispense with the sling. Now, so far as the bone is concerned, no one could tell which side was injured, and there is not the least sign of a lump there.
I have seen many other cases of healing in our home, for which I thank God, and I am also grateful to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—Marion Hunie, Meriden, Conn.
