[Written for the Sentinel.]

SEEKING THE LIGHT

I Do not ask for riches, power,
For worldly wisdom, strength, or might;
I only ask that every hour
May bring to me the heaven-born light.

Then, loving Father, give me love,
That I may also loving be;
And Life, that I with Thee may move
In vision of eternity;

And, best of all, may purity
Express itself in thought, word, deed;
Then perfect, in Thy likeness, I
Shall know and live the truth indeed.
