De Nieuwe Courant
The writer in your paper thinks it incredible that sickness should be healed "by the continual repetition of words such as wisdom, eternal Love and Truth." I do not consider it less improbable than does he, that the desired result could be obtained in this way, and I am convinced that all Christian Scientists agree with my point of view. Christian Science treatment is quite a different thing, and consists of prayer in the highest sense of that word, and not of a repetition of words or the use of formulas. Prayer in Christian Science is listening to God; it is learning to understand what God does, He who continually holds perfect His creation, His expression, which is as spiritual as Himself. Christian Science teaches that the office of prayer is not to change God, the All-wise, or to extort a blessing which He would otherwise withhold, but that the only object of prayer is to change men, and to make them more conscious of God and of the spiritual man in God's image and likeness.
