AMONG THE CHURCHES

CURRENT NOTES.

Sea Cliff, N. Y .—Services were held for the first time in the new Christian Science chapel of Sea Cliff, Long Island, on Sunday, April 13. This being the first church structure owned by any Christian Science organization on Long Island outside the limits of Greater New York, it was regarded as an interesting indication of the progress of the cause in this region.

The property was purchased in November, 1912, and comprised a plot 60x80 feet at the corner of 15th avenue and Central Park place, overlooking Central park, with a pretty glimpse of the bay a quarter of a mile farther west. On the property was a six-room cottage, which has been converted into a cozy chapel by making the entire interior into an audience room sufficient for the present needs of the society. The building is so located on the rear of the plot that future church extensions can be readily made in front, leaving the present chapel available for reading-room and Sunday school uses.

The society was organized in 1908, and for a while held services in Central hall, from which they moved into a hall in the Camp building, where they remained more than a year. From this they went to the larger hall in the Bank building, corner Sea Cliff and Central avenues. Pending the preparation of their own premises during the past winter, services have been conducted in the music room of a private residence. The entire property has cost over two thousand dollars, of which eight hundred dollars is still to be paid on a mortgage in friendly hands.—Correspondence.
