Quincy (Ill.) Herald

There has been a great deal of talk lately about medical freedom, and people wonder what it is. Why, bless you, it is just like any other kind of freedom. It is not a question of doctors or drugs; it is simply a matter of vital importance to every individual citizen; it is the fundamental basis of all our liberty in this land of freedom. The question is whether you or I or any citizen may have the right to select and employ that method of healing which we believe in and which we think or know from experience will cure.

It seems like a very simple proposition, which could not be opposed reasonably by any person or school; and yet there are certain elements so unfair as to be making every effort to deprive citizens of their individual right of choice. When looked at in a broad, liberal way, untrammeled by any personal consideration, it would seem as if every fair-minded man would be as disposed to grant every one the privilege to choose a healer as to grant him the right to pick out his own butcher or baker or grocer or undertaker. The opposition to such freedom is entitled to no standing; and the only way this opposition can be explained, is that the element of personal gain has crept in and blunted the sense of justice and fairness which is innate in every unbiased citizen.
