I have so much to be grateful for that I do not know...

I have so much to be grateful for that I do not know where to begin. Christian Science came to me at a time when fear seemed to be dominating all my thoughts,—fear for my own health, and for that of my two children. A copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy was lent me to read when I was in bed with an attack of rheumatism. I was subject to these attacks, and was always in great fear and dread of the pain. I was, however, healed on the day that I read our text-book, though I did not realize it at the time, as I got up that day and never had any more of the illness. This was six years ago, and how thankful I am for this revelation of divine Truth which shows that there are no laws to bind us to suffering, if only we understand the law of God, the law of health and joy and peace.

A year or so after I had taken up the study of Christian Science, my youngest boy was attacked by a severe illness which lasted for several days. He ate nothing, but drank a very little milk. One day the climax seemed to be reached, and the practitioner who was treating him came out to see him (we were five miles out of a town). She gave him treatment, talked to him, and then comforted me. The next thing I saw was my little boy walking around, as happy and bright as possible. Before the practitioner came he did not seem to have strength to lift his arm, but the next day he was running about as if he had never been ill. I well remember how full was my heart with thankfulness to God, also with gratitude to our dear Leader and appreciation of the patient love shown us all the time. I am likewise deeply grateful for the privilege of belonging to the Christian Science Society in Cambridge, and for the love and help that has always been poured out to me, even when I seemed to be "tried and found wanting." Then loving hands were stretched out, and such love was shown to me, and a confidence and trust placed in me (which I felt all too keenly was not deserved), that it roused me to better things. I am indeed grateful for the services, for the never-failing help one gets from them. I also want to express my gratitude for the quick recovery to health from what seemed an especially severe attack of measles which both of my boys developed at the holiday season, while I was away from home, and which was speedily overcome with the help of a practitioner.

I have no words to express what Christian Science did for me when a great sorrow befell me. I had the loving help of a practitioner, and through the power of Truth I was able to realize the truth of being, to feel and know our oneness with God and that all blessings are ours. This understanding of Truth is ours because there was found one pure and good enough to be God's messenger to this age, and is it any wonder that those who are striving to become Christian Scientists have hearts overflowing with love and gratitude to their beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, when they read her life-story, her heroic stand in the face of what seemed insurmountable obstacles, and her patience, unselfishness, and love. May we express our gratitude, not by words but by deeds, to one who has shown us the way to health, happiness, and "the peace of God. which passeth all understanding."
