SINGING BELLS

Three stemlike towers soar far above
The noisy street,
And there they flower in singing bells;
While hurrying feet
Along the path of striving men,
Pause on their way
To grapple with the beckoning day,
As deep-toned swells
The message of the singing bells—
Strikes "faith," strikes "hope," strikes "courage"; then
Strikes "courage," "hope," and "faith" again!

Toward home, how swift the speeding feet,
For night draws near;
Already in the western sky
Shines a lone star!
Along the path of faithful men—
A blessed way—
They hasten at the close of day,
And sweet-toned swells
The benediction of the bells—
Strikes "peace," strikes "joy," strikes "love," and then
Strikes "love" and "joy" and "peace" again!
