Five years ago I went to Constantinople, fully convinced...
Five years ago I went to Constantinople, fully convinced that there was no congenial work for me in England. I, however, very soon found that I had even less chance there of making any headway, and I was rapidly degenerating into a pitiful bundle of fears and pessimism, full of care, worry, and anxiety about myself and those dear to me. It was in this state that my wife joined me some nine months later, and brought Christian Science to my notice, as she had during this interval become interested in it in England. From that time I have been led lovingly and wonderfully from joy to joy and strength to strength, and today I am back in London, where I have always wanted to be, in a better post than I have ever had before, and I am a happy, well individual, dwelling in that realization of the truth of God's word as revealed to us through Mrs. Eddy. This truth is sufficient for the be ginner in this Science to rest in the full assurance of everpresent Love and the omnipotence of divine Mind.
My life is now full of happiness in the knowledge that none of us need stay in hell any longer than we want to, and we shall never know any other than that which we make for ourselves by our own wrong thoughts and ill-doing. I now know that honesty of purpose, pure acts and motives, and an ever-increasing knowledge of Christian Science will bring us nearer and nearer to God, that it will enable us to overcome all inharmony through the truth of being.
With the first glimpse of Christian Science I was able to discard glasses, and as I have learned more and more of it, I have been able to overcome headaches, boils, and to a great extent a skin trouble of many year's standing. All desire to smoke or to imbibe stimulants has left me. I can never express my gratitude for the calm and peace that Christian Science has brought into my life, thankfulness to Mrs. Eddy for making the Bible a living, practical vade mecum, instead of only a book of beautiful thoughts and inspired writings. I am truly grateful for the help given me most lovingly and wonderfully at so great a distance, and thankful to all those Christian Scientists who with many a helpful word have made my horizon brighter and clearer.
