Among the Churches

Current Notes

Logansport, Ind. — The laying of the corner-stone of First Church of Christ, Scientist, at Ninth and North streets, is an epoch in the history of this church organization, and the completion of the edifice will mark an achievement toward which the membership has long been seriously striving. The church will be one of the handsomest in the city and will follow a style of architecture largely adopted by the Scientists throughout the country. Every dollar of the building fund was raised among the members, no assistance being solicited from outside sources. The Christian Science faith in Logansport has grown from a modest beginning, and the religious thought taught by this church was for a number of years beset by prejudice. This hostility has been largely overcome, and, however much the teachings of other doctrines may differ from those of the Scientists, the Scientists have earned the respect of all denominations. Among the many church buildings in Logansport none will be handsomer than the Christian Science church, and in none will worship be more devout and sincere.

New Orleans, La. — First Church of Christ, Scientist, having outgrown the edifice on Coliseum and Melpomene streets, is now building a new church, which when completed will compare favorably with the most beautiful structures in the South. A lot measuring ninety by one hundred feet on the corner of Garfield street and Nashvilled avenue was purchased for ninety-five hundred dollars, and is completely paid for. Plans for the new edifice were accepted some weeks past and the work on the structure is well under way. The cost of the building will be forty-two thousand dollars.
