The Lectures
Owing to persistent activity on the part of Blackpool Christian Scientists, and to recent controversies on the subject, a very considerable degree of interest is being manifested by Blackpool people in this section of the Christian church. And the lecture of Prof. Hermann S. Hering, delivered at the Grand theater, attracted a very large attendance, the house being filled to its fullest capacity. The chair was taken by John W. Doorly of Manchester, who said he had much pleasure in welcoming the audience to the lecture. Christian Science always came in a quiet, loving way, which was in no degree competitive. It sought and had no quarrels with any other sect or belief, or with anything else. It was not afraid that any other sect or belief would interfere with its activities, for the reason that it knew that it was true, and as it was true, it could never be interfered with or hampered in any way, because, being true, it was the eternal law of God.
Christian Scientists welcomed the good that was accomplished by any one, and were always glad to do so. Mrs. Eddy bestowed wonderful benefit on humanity when she discovered Christian Science; but she bestowed a still more wonderful benefit when she established it and made it so practical that every man and women could take it into his or her life and utilize it just as they could utilize the multiplication table. There was today no excuse for any one not understanding Christian Science. If they did not understand it, they did not understand the healing and redeeming ministry of Jesus Christ, for to Christian Scientists these were one and the same thing. They were the power of Mind and the power of Spirit made manifest in human affairs. The Christian Science church all over the world was accomplishing much good for humanity, and it was doing that in the simple way of teaching men how to pray correctly. It utterly and absolutely refused to believe that one could pray and change God, but it came teaching the fact that prayer was the true understanding of God and His immutable laws.
