"My burden is light"
Before studying the teachings of Christian Science, I often wondered what Jesus meant when he said, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; ... For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." I had always thought of his ministry as attended with so much labor and persecution that it seemed to me he bore a heavy burden rather than a light one. It was a little experience which led to a demonstration that opened my eyes and revealed the true meaning of this text.
Some work which came to me to do, and which I accepted as a duty, for a time bore heavily upon me. As I continued to seek the scientific and true sense of the problem, it flashed across my thought one day that the only demand made upon me was to reflect Love. I realized that Love is ever present and infinite, and can therefore never be exhausted; also that the ability to reflect Love is part of consciousness itself, and can never be lost or even limited. Thus the duty became an opportunity which I used gratefully, and through which I was blessed. This demonstration opened the way for others, and I am continually blessed in my daily work by accepting every task as an opportunity to serve God by reflecting Truth and Love.
As mankind learns of the infinite resources of divine Mind and of man's oneness with this Mind, the problems which once appeared difficult become simple because of an ever-increasing sense of dominion and power. Instead of accepting the suggestions of evil as true, the Christian Scientist, instructed by Truth, meets them as falsities without power. He is thus redeemed from fear and its torment; and placing his whole reliance upon God, Spirit, he is able to meet the arguments of error with the scientific statements of Truth which reverse the false testimony of sense and reveal the facts of Soul as perfect, harmonious, and eternal. To dwell in the secret place of the most High, demonstrates the fact that heaven is an ever-present reality. It proves that here and now, in doing the work of today, in meeting the present and ofttimes pressing obligation, we have opportunity to prove God. Mortal mind is prone to look far off for heaven and into the distant future. The temptation to postpone the hour of salvation and to limit it to certain material conditions is one of error's most subtle claims.
